Erläuterungen
Das Historische Archiv verwahrt das Hausarchiv des Germanischen Nationalmuseums seit dessen Gründung im Jahre 1852. Es dokumentiert alle Facetten des Forschungs-, Sammlungs-, Bildungs- und Gedächtnisauftrags der Mutterinstitution. Darüber hinaus repräsentiert das Archiv - über seinen eigenen Sammel- und Dokumentationsauftrag kulturgeschichtlicher Quellen des deutschsprachigen Raums - eine breite Palette menschlicher Erfahrungen vom 10. bis zum 20. Jh. Seine Bestände erstrecken sich über eine Vielzahl von Medien, von Pergamenturkunden und anderen handschriftlichen Primärquellen bis hin zu Drucken, Landkarten, Zeichnungen, fotografischem Material und vielem mehr.

Administrative records of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum leading up to its foundation in 1852 and since then • records of the 10th to 20th centuries from the German-speaking regions: collections of deeds (ca 10,000, 10th to 20th centuries), autograph documents (ca 15,000, 16th to 20th centuries), work certificates and indentures (17th to 19th centuries), fonds of imperial cities (Nuremberg, Regensburg and Windsheim), Brondolo monastery, the lay fraternity in Brixen, dominion of Wolkenstein-Rodenegg, von Behaim family, as well as materials on the history of science and crafts • collection of seals (ca. 18,000 seals – originals and copies) • deposits: Pegnesischer Blumenorden (a German literary society), Collegium Pharmaceuticum Norimbergense, various family archives (above all of Nuremberg patrician families) • the »Glockenarchiv« (Bell Archive), comprising a collection of materials on ca 16,300 bells confiscated between 1940-1943, including ca 30,000 index cards, 13,000 photographic negatives, prints as well as plaster casts, paper set-offs, graphite rub-offs and extensive files
